AI Gemini Can Create Email Replies, More Flexible And Understand Context
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com – Google has updated the Smart Reply feature in its Gmail email service with Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This update was announced by Google via the Google Workspaces Update page on Friday (9/27/2024). Smart Reply is a feature that can provide email reply recommendations, without having to manually string words together. This feature was first introduced in 2017. However, Smart Reply’s reply suggestions were quite rigid and without context. Now, the Smart Reply feature is supported by Gemini, so the replies are more flexible and adapt to the context. “We recognize that there are scenarios where users want to provide replies that are more than just ‘Sounds good’, ‘Yes, I’m working on it’. That’s why we’re announcing a new Gemini feature in Gmail, contextual Smart Replies,” wrote Google, quoted by KompasTekno from the Google Workspaces Update page, Monday (9/30/2024).
When one of the options is selected, the suggested reply will be displayed in the body of the email. Smart Reply’s suggested replies are also not rigid, but are quite flexible by adding an opening sentence, the main reply to the closing.
However, users can review it if editing is needed or need to add further sentences. When finished, users only need to press the send reply button.

For example, every time you open an unread message in your inbox, Gemini AI will appear in the sidebar and offer assistance. There are several recommendations offered, starting from summarizing the text content, analyzing the email sent, and so on.
