ERP when it was first born was not known as ERP but as MRP1, namely Material Requirement Planning, an application or information system intended to optimize the provision of materials for the manufacturing industry so that material needs in the manufacturing industry are met on time, right quantity, right quality and also completed at the right time according to needs

Then MRP transformed into MRP2 (Manufacturing Resource Planning) which managed not only materials but resources including human resources, machines, space (place) and costs.

Because MRP2 was increasingly successful, its scope was expanded to other industries so that its name could no longer maintain MRP but was changed to ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning

So the difference between MRP1 and MRP2 is that MRP1 is specifically for Material Planning, MRP2 includes HR, machines, space and costs while ERP has a wider scope for manufacturing and other industries.
