Website Using The Updraftplus Plugin

Backup itself is the process of creating backup data by copying or creating data archives. Be it computer data or websites that can later be reused to overcome errors that may occur in the future.

So, of course it is very important to do a backup because remembering unexpected things can happen. Like when an error occurs in the update process or updating the WordPress version or other failures.

Manual backup can indeed be done, but errors or errors can sometimes occur at any time without being realized when they occur. Therefore, there needs to be a backup process that runs automatically without the need for commands.

The solution is to use the updraftplus plugin. Updraftplus is a plugin that simplifies the backup process and the WordPress website restore process. The advantage of this plugin is that it can do backups and restores on a schedule.

More than that, besides being able to save the backup results on a PC or download them, you can also save the backup results on online storage media. Such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and other online storage media that are already integrated with the website.

So you don’t need to worry anymore if you forget to backup. Because you can also get the backup file anywhere and can easily retrieve it on the online storage media used.

Because as explained above, any WordPress website or CMS is vulnerable to various things regarding its files. Such as server crashes, security, theme updates that are not necessarily safe, and other problems.

WordPress Website Backup

So, then how do you backup a website with updraftplus? Here are the steps you can follow.

Install the Updraftplus Plugin

  • First, go to the WordPress admin page then select the Add Plugin menu. You can also type the backup keyword to make it easier to find this plugin.
  • Press install and activate the plugin to be able to proceed to the next stage.
  • This discussion will be divided into three parts, namely regular backup, google drive backup, and dropbox backup.

1. Regular Backup

To do a regular backup, you simply open the updraftplus plugin settings. Then press the Backup Now button.

  • A pop-up will appear and click the Backup Now button again.
  • After that, the website will run the backup process.
  • After the backup process is complete, a list of backup results will appear below it along with the date when the backup was performed.
  • From the backup results, you can restore directly or you can also download the backup results into a zip file. The method is to press the Database, Plugins, Themes, Uploads or Others button.

2. Dropbox Backup

In addition to being able to backup and download the file, you can also upload it directly to Dropbox storage.

  • Just click the Settings Tab on the updraftplus settings page. Then click the Dropbox button.
  • Then save the settings by pressing the Save button. After that, a pop-up will appear showing the authorize url link to be able to access Dropbox. Then click the link.
  • Then you will be asked for approval to connect updraftplus with dropbox. Click Allow to agree.
  • After that, click Complete Setu to end the connection process.
  • Once finished, when you are going to do the backup process, you simply press the Backup Now button on the Updraftplus settings page.
  • That way, you can do a backup via WordPress directly and have a copy of the file in Dropbox.

3. Backup Google Drive

After using Dropbox successfully, we will use Google Drive as a storage place. So, if you don’t have an account on Dropbox, you can use Google Drive to save it.

Just like before, click the settings tab in the Updraftplus settings.

  • Select Google Drive as the storage place.
  • Save the settings by clicking Save. Then just like before, you will find a pop-up in the form of a link to authorize to Google Drive and click the link.
  • Select the Google account that will be used to save the backup results.
  • Click Allow to agree that Updraftplus can manage your Google Drive storage media.
  • Click Complete Setup to complete the connection process.
  • To do a backup, click Backup Now.
  • Then the backup results use Google Drive.
