Iphone Hit By Chinese Phones
, Apple CEO’s Reaction Unexpected
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Fierce competition with Chinese phones has caused iPhone sales to plummet in the Bamboo Curtain country. Last year’s iPhone 15 series reportedly fell short of expectations and caused Apple’s mobile phone business to decline globally.
For this year’s iPhone 16 series, the Chinese public also seems less enthusiastic. A few moments ago, it was reported that many Chinese netizens criticized the phone because they considered it not as sophisticated as Chinese-made phones.
The Apple Intelligence embedded in the iPhone 16 cannot be used immediately when buying the phone, because it has to wait for a software update. This made the hashtag ‘iPhone 16 Chinese version does not support AI’ go viral on Weibo social media.
Amid high pressure in the Chinese market, Apple CEO Tim Cook made an unexpected comment. During his visit to China to meet the Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong, Cook promised to continue investing heavily in China.
Jin and Cook discussed many things, from Apple’s development in China, data network security management, to cloud services, quoted from GlobalTimes, Thursday (10/24/2024).
Cook said he would actively take advantage of the Chinese government’s openness to foreign technology industries.
He promised to continue to expand investment in China and contribute to the development of the quality of the industrial supply chain.
This is also quite surprising. Because, Apple has recently been known to have deliberately moved iPhone manufacturing from China to India to reduce dependence on China.
Meanwhile, Jin said China continues to open opportunities for the telecommunications sector to create investment opportunities for foreign companies to operate in its country which has a large market.
Jin also emphasized that China will continue to create a better climate for global investors.
In addition to meeting Jin, Cook also met the executive chairman of China Mobile, which is the largest telecommunications operator in China. The two discussed digital content and collaboration for 5G products, according to a statement sent by China Mobile to the Global Times.
This is Cook’s second visit to China this year. This shows that China is a very important market for Apple.
