The First Time Google Search Was Abandoned, Here’s Its Replacement

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Google Search is starting to be abandoned. According to a report, the use of the search engine giant is starting to decline.

Search Engine Land reported, quoted Sunday (9/2/2025), that Google’s share has fallen below 90%. This trend has continued for the past three months.

Even citing 9to5 Google, this only happened after almost 10 years ago or early 2015.

This is different from a few years ago when Google Search was known as a search engine giant. Even the term Googling was also known to search for everything on the internet.

The report also stated that there was an increase, but not significant, in search engines of Google’s generation such as Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex.

One of the reasons Google Search was abandoned was the existence of AI. Generative AI technology such as that adopted by ChatGPT and Perplexity is also used by many people to search.

In addition, many Gen Z have switched to using TikTok as a search medium. These young people choose to look for hotel and dining recommendations through the video sharing application.

TikTok is also known to have tested links from its application to Google Search. Search sources have also been showing those originating from TikTok since early 2024.
