The Real Reason TikTok Won’t Shut

Down Its Services in the US

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia TikTok canceled the closure of its application access in the United States (US). The decision was made thanks to President-elect Donald Trump who will soon be inaugurated.

In a statement on social media X, TikTok stated that it was in the process of restoring services. The company also said that Trump provided clarity and assurances that it would not punish platforms that still provide TikTok services.

“In accordance with the agreement with service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring services,” explained TikTok, quoted Monday (1/20/2025).

“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurances to service providers that they will not face penalties for presenting TikTok to more than 170 million Americans and more than 7 million growing small businesses,” TikTok added.

TikTok also said that the company would work with Trump. The goal is to find a long-term solution so that the video-sharing application can continue to operate in the US>

Based on US government regulations, ByteDance must sell TikTok by a deadline of January 19, 2025. Otherwise, the application will be blocked, including punishing service providers if they still provide it.

However, approaching that day, there has been no sale of TikTok. The application had blocked access for users in the US last weekend for 12 hours.

Not only that, the application was also removed from the App Store and Play Store. However, based on statements from several people on Sunday local time, they were able to access TikTok via mobile and desktop applications.

Previously, Trump also expressed his desire for the US to own 50% of TikTok in its joint venture. The goal is to make TikTok on the safe side and still be able to operate.

However, ByteDance remains adamant about not selling TikTok. It is not clear what the fate of TikTok in the US will be in the future. Let’s just wait!
