TikTok Wants Massive Layoffs Worldwide
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TikTok is reportedly planning to carry out massive layoffs (PHK) of employees throughout the world.
The Information reports that TikTok has notified employees of plans for major layoffs. The layoff policy which started this week is said to have the most impact on the operations and marketing divisions.
The number of employees who will be laid off was not stated. However, TikTok employees interviewed by The Information stated that the number would be very significant from around 1,000 TikTok employees in the fields of operations, content and marketing.
TikTok is also said to be planning to eliminate the global operations team that manages support services and user communications. Some employees from this division will be transferred to the trust and safety, marketing, content and product divisions.
The last wave of layoffs that hit TikTok occurred in January. At that time, 60 people from the sales and advertising division were laid off.
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, will lay off hundreds of employees in 2022. This step was taken as an efficiency measure, according to reports from two insiders, as quoted by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
These layoffs have an impact on employees at Douyin, a service similar to TikTok but only operates in China. Apart from Douyin, the layoffs also had an impact on ByteDance’s real estate business and gaming services. However, these layoffs are said to only affect a small portion of the human resources of all ByteDance employees, numbering more than 100,000 people globally.
