12 Mobile Apps Used to Hack
WhatsApp, Delete Them Now!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Not all mobile apps provide benefits to users. There are several Android apps that actually bring disaster.
In fact, malicious apps can secretly be used to hack chats on WhatsApp. This was revealed by cybersecurity company ESET.
ESET found 12 problematic apps that contained a remote Trojan (RAT), Vajran Spy. These apps have the potential to be used to steal data and control devices remotely.
One example is stealing call log details and messages. In addition, the 12 detected apps can also remotely control the camera, to extract conversation details on short message apps such as WhatsApp and Signal.
“Stealing contacts, files, call logs, and SMS messages, but some implementations can extract messages from WhatsApp and Signal, record phone calls and take pictures with the camera,” wrote the ESET report.
The Trojan also has the ability to prevent notifications, record keystrokes on the victim’s phone, and take over the voice recorder microphone.
Most of the detected apps are similar to chat platforms. Potential victims will be deceived by social engineering.
This is not the first time Vajran Spy has appeared. In 2022, in a Broadcom report, the RAT malware was said to have used Google Cloud Storage to collect data stolen from users.
The Vajran Spy malware is associated with the APT-Q-43 group, which targets military personnel.
