Indonesia’s Internet King Has No Opponents, Others Only Get Crumbs

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Telkomsel’s fixed internet service, IndiHome, is the most popular operator in Indonesia, according to the 2025 Indonesian Internet Survey released by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII).

The report shows that IndiHome controlled a 43.96% market share of fixed internet users in 2025. This achievement places IndiHome far ahead of its competitors.

In second place is the “Others” category with 23.83%, followed by Iconnet with 4.24%, Biznet with 3.87%, and My Republic with 2.82%. Meanwhile, other players such as MNC Play, Oxygen, XL Home, and CBN recorded market shares below 3%.

The data also revealed that 33.01% of respondents chose an operator based on affordable package prices, followed by referrals from relatives (19.35%) and attractive promotional offers during initial registration (18.82%).

Meanwhile, 13.94% of respondents cited a trusted operator reputation as a key factor.

APJII noted that other factors, such as operator availability in the location (11.79%) and bundling with other services (1.73%) also influence people’s choices.

Behind IndiHome’s dominance, APJII Chairman Muhammad Arif revealed the condition of the internet service provider (ISP) ecosystem in the countryAccording to him, the current industry structure has been deeply damaged.

“The internet ecosystem in Indonesia has been incredibly disrupted, with the number of ISPs reaching more than 1,300,” Arif stated at the opening of the DTI-CX 2025 event at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Wednesday (August 6, 2025).

Furthermore, Arif stated that interest in becoming an internet provider remains very high.

“In fact, according to data from Komdigi, there are almost 500 people waiting to become internet providers. Therefore, the system must be reorganized. We see this as a way to move towards a sustainable internet ecosystem,” he stressed.
