
Indonesia’s Internet Speed Is on Par with Laos and Myanmar, Slowest in Southeast Asia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Indonesia still has one of the slowest internet speeds in Southeast Asia, trailing only Laos and Myanmar.
In the August 2025 Speedtest Global Index report, Indonesia ranked 83rd. Compared to Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia ranked 8th, just one spot behind Laos in last place.
The report recorded an average Indonesian mobile internet speed of 45.01 Mbps, with upload speeds of 16.02 Mbps and latency of 22 ms.
Speedtest noted that Indonesia actually experienced an improvement in its ranking from the previous report. Indonesia climbed three spots on the list.
In Southeast Asia, five countries have achieved speeds above 100 Mbps. One of them is Brunei Darussalam, which is the fastest country in Southeast Asia and ranked 9th in the world with a speed of 184.86 Mbps.
Next is Singapore, ranked 12th with 164.75 Mbps. Vietnam is close behind (ranked 16th).
Meanwhile, for fixed broadband internet, Indonesia beat only Myanmar. Indonesia ranked 166th with a speed of 39.88 Mbps.
This position is far below Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, which are the top three countries with the fastest fixed broadband internet. Singapore, also ranked at the top in the world according to the report, has a speed of 394.30 Mbps.
Meanwhile, Thailand ranked 9th with a speed of 262.42 Mbps, and Vietnam, one rank below, recorded a fixed broadband internet speed of 261.80 Mbps.
