Beware! Tax Authorities Warn of
Spoofing Fraud, These Are the Signs
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance has warned the public to be careful of spoofing fraud. This mode is carried out by perpetrators by sending tax bill emails or any email that appears to be sent by the DJP.
“Be careful of fraud attempts that use the name of the official DJP email, but the original sender is not the DJP, this is a fraud with a spoofing mode,” as quoted from a post on the DJP Instagram account, Friday, (23/8/2024).
The DJP wrote that this mode is usually carried out by disguising the header section of the email. In that section, the perpetrator will use the name of a certain agency, including the DJP. To avoid this mode, the DJP recommends that the public check the authenticity of the email sender. One way that can be done is to look at the sender’s original metadata. For example, on the Gmail service, the owner can select the more > show original menu.
“Fraudsters usually use random emails from suspicious sites to send spoofing emails.”
The DGT asserted that tax debt collection carried out by the DGT is always based on legal products
delivered directly or by post. The DGT never sends tax debt bills via email.
