This is Elon Musk’s Latest Victim
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Civil servants in Donald Trump’s administration are being slayed by Elon Musk. The latest victim of Musk’s Government Efficiency Agency (DOGE) is employees at the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
Initially, CISA was not included in the list of agencies affected by the reduction. This is because CISA plays an important role in maintaining national security and critical infrastructure.
However, the latest report states that employees are being asked to resign voluntarily. On Wednesday (2/6) local time, several CISA staff were given notice and only had a few hours to decide whether they would accept the offer, according to three sources who spoke to NPR, quoted Friday (2/7/2025).
This is the latest step in the Trump administration’s broader effort to shrink the federal government’s human resources.
“CISA Team, I am writing to update you that CISA employees are eligible to participate in the Deferred Resignation (‘Fork in the Road’) program,” Bridget Bean, who is known as the “senior official performing the duties of the director” at CISA, wrote in an email seen by NPR.
“This is a deeply personal decision, and whatever you decide, we support you,” the email added.
Bean also wrote that the resignation offer would expire at midnight on Thursday, February 6, 2025. It is unclear whether the offer is legally binding or whether Congress will appropriate funds to pay for it after March.
The “Fork in the Road” program is the same term that was offered to Twitter employees after the social media company was acquired by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Musk now leads President Trump’s advisory team called DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency.
DOGE staff have been breaking into federal agencies from the State Department to the Treasury Department over the past week, forcing their way into sensitive files and systems and sparking widespread legal protests.
