DeepSeek Blocked Everywhere, Here’s Why Many Are Afraid of Chinese AI
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –South Korea has also banned the use of DeepSeek domestically. The Ministry of Industry has blocked platform access for its employees.
The report came from Reuters, citing a Ministry official. The local government has also issued a notice for ministries and institutions to be careful about the use of AI in the workplace, quoted on Thursday (6/2/2025).
However, the warning was not only for DeepSeek. But also for ChatGPT made by OpenAI which was the beginning of the rapid development of AI several years ago.
A number of institutions and ministries have also blocked it. For example, the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power institution blocked DeepSeek along with other AI services in early February.
The Ministry of Defense did the same. Local officials said that access was blocked on ministry computers used for military purposes.
DeepSeek has also been restricted from computers connected to external networks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a Yonhap report. Reuters said the Ministry did not confirm specific security measures.
South Korea’s move follows bans imposed by the Australian and Taiwanese governments. Both countries have banned DeepSeek from being used on all government devices.
Meanwhile, Italy’s data protection authority has asked DeepSeek to shut down its chatbot in the country. This happened after the Chinese company failed to provide assurances about concerns about its privacy policy.
Cybersecurity firm Armis’ CTO Nadir Izrael also said that many Netskope customers have restricted access to DeepSeek. Netskope itself is a network security company to limit employee access to certain sites.
“As many as 70% of Armis’ clients have requested access to be blocked, Izrael said. As many as 52% of Netskop’s clients have also blocked access to DeepSeek altogether, according to Ray Canzanese, Netskope’s threat lab director.
“The biggest concern is the potential for data leakage on the [DeepSeek] AI model to the Chinese government,” Izrael said, quoted by the Japan Times,
