Elon Musk Makes Wrong
Bank Transfer, Fatal Impact
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Elon Musk said his platform, X, agreed to pay the entire fine filed by the Brazilian Supreme Court. The fine was to continue X’s operations in Brazil.
However, the Brazilian Supreme Court said the team of lawyers representing the X platform had not paid the fine to the correct bank. As a result, the decision to allow X in Brazil will be postponed.
X’s lawyer said the fine payment had been made correctly on Friday (4/10) last week.
For information, X has been banned from operating in Brazil since the end of August 2024. In fact, Brazil is one of X’s largest markets.
The blocking was carried out after X refused to comply with a court order to moderate hate speech content. In addition, X was also considered to have failed to appoint a legal representative in Brazil, in accordance with applicable regulations.
Last Friday, X asked for its services to resume operations in Brazil after claiming to have paid all pending fines.
In response to the request, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes requested that the payment be transferred to the correct bank.
He also said that after the fine issue is resolved, the Brazilian prosecutor will give an opinion regarding the request submitted by X’s legal team in Brazil to restore its operations.
X’s legal team denied that the fine payment was made to the wrong bank. Furthermore, X’s legal team also said that there was no need for an opinion from the public prosecutor to remove the ban on X in Brazil.
X claims to have carried out the court order for several weeks. Not only did it pay the fine, but it also blocked several accounts that were being investigated legally.
However, Moraes’ claim that the fine payment was transferred to the wrong bank seems likely to extend X’s ban in the country. Let’s just wait and see!
