Enter Immediately Slash Prices, XL Asks Starlink to be Controlled

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A number of parties have commented on Starlink which has finally officially entered Indonesia. One of them is PT XL Axiata Tbk. (EXCL) which asked the government to exercise control over Starlink’s tariff structure.

XL Axiata’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, Reza Mirza, explained that this was done with the aim of not potentially threatening the sustainability of the national telecommunications business.

“Controlling the Starlink tariff structure so that it does not have the potential to threaten the sustainability of the national telecommunications business. In essence, we really hope that the government can act as an arbiter to ensure that there is an equal playing field for all of this,” he explained to CNBC Indonesia , Wednesday (22/5/2024) .

Apart from controlling the tariff structure, the government is also asked to facilitate Starlink to collaborate with operators, both for Business to Customer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) services.

Reza said that his party hopes for a balanced implementation of regulations. Starlink is required to do the same things as other operators, such as implementing PNBP for the telecommunications sector.

“We hope that Starlink’s presence in Indonesia can open up the potential for collaboration, thereby bringing real benefits to society and the development of the telecommunications industry in Indonesia,” said Reza.

Starlink has officially operated in Indonesia some time ago. Billionaire Elon Musk’s service has obtained two permits to operate in Indonesia as a Vsat provider and ISP.

Musk also came to Indonesia to inaugurate Starlink operations. He handed over the Starlink device directly to the Sumerta Kelod Community Health Center in Bali on Sunday (19/5/2024).

This is part of the collaboration between Starlink and the Ministry of Health. The aim is for community health centers throughout Indonesia to be able to access the internet.
