Foreigners Highlight 5G Internet in Indonesia, Here’s Why

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The 5G network will continue to grow until 2030 in Indonesia. Its adoption will reach 32% over the next six years compared to 1% in 2023.

GSMA said that Indonesia and India are among those that are starting to get the world’s attention regarding 5G technology. India is expected to adopt 5G reaching 49% in 2030 with adoption of 10 million people per month.

Both countries have large populations and quite complex geography. On the other hand, data usage is very large and will become the center of future industry.

However, the appetite for data usage is quite large and will become the center of world industry and manufacturing in the future,” said Head of Asia Pacific GSMA Julian Gorman, in Jakarta, Thursday (12/9/2024).

According to Julian, this is a new place for 5G use. Including to provide new opportunities for Indonesia and India.

For developed countries such as Singapore and South Korea, they had almost full 5G penetration several years ago. Almost all cellular users in the country are already using the network.

Everyone in Singapore and South Korea will use 5G. Except for people who are too young (children) to use it,” Julian explained.

Meanwhile, Asia Pacific’s 5G adoption will reach 45% in 2030. While 4G will be 50% or down from 70% in 2023.

The same thing is happening globally. The 5G network will increase from 18% last year to 56% in 2030, and 4G will decrease from 59% (in 2023) to 35%.

Because so many countries have switched to 5G. 4G usage in Asia Pacific only peaked 12-18 months ago,” Julian said.
