Be A 19-Year-Old Teenager

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia A 19-year-old teenager is suspected of being involved in a cryptocurrency theft. An estimated US$243 million (IDR 3.7 trillion) was stolen by a man from Connecticut, United States (US) and a group of cybercriminals.

Crypto crime investigator ZachXBT explained that the theft used a telephone-based social engineering attack. In his presentation, he included a screen recording of the Discord chat by the robbery participants.

The conversation in it mentioned the username of the Microsoft Windows PC used to participate in the chat. One of them was Veer Chetal, which ZachXBT said was the same as the 19-year-old’s name.

The man used the username Swag. He is suspected of being involved in the early stages of the crypto theft to gain access to the victim’s Gmail and iCloud accounts, quoted from Krebsonsecurity, Friday (11/10/2024).

Simultaneously, charges were issued against two people in Washington DC. They are Malone ‘Greavys’ Lam (20) and Jeandiel ‘Box’ Serrano (21) who participated in stealing and laundering the stolen money.

“Lam and Serrano allegedly used the proceeds of the laundered crypto money for international travel, nightclubs, luxury cars, watches, jewelry, designer bags, and rental homes in Los Angeles and Miami,” wrote the US Department of Justice statement.

ZachXBT tried to trace the flow of the theft funds. The result is that Swag, also known as Wiz, received a large payment from their actions worth more than US$41 million from two exchanges.

He also explained Lam’s luxurious life with the stolen money. It is said that Greavys bought more than 10 vehicles, rented magnificent properties, went on charter jets and spent US$250 thousand-US$500 thousand per night at clubs in Los Angeles and Miami.

Based on the report, all suspects in the theft are members of The Com. This is a community that focuses on collective crime.

Members of The Com are known to like to brag about their actions and positions in the community. In addition to bringing down each other and criticizing the biggest thefts.
