Google Has Been Left Behind, Its Replacement is More Sophisticated

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia ChatGPT is increasingly serious about challenging the dominance of the Google Search search engine. OpenAI has just launched an update for the search feature in chatbots.

In its update reported by Bleeping Computer, ChatGPT Search provides more comprehensive and up-to-date responses. Understanding of the questions given is also better.

Another ability is remembering longer conversations to help improve search results. OpenAI claims its service can significantly reduce repetitive responses.

“The ability to more robustly follow instructions, especially with longer conversations, will significantly reduce repetitive responses,” explained the company founded by Sam Altman.

However, the update is not yet completely perfect. OpenAI reminds ChatGPT that it still makes occasional mistakes and asks users to double-check the responses given.

ChatGPT search is only one year old. This service will provide a summary of content with quick answers.

The source of the response comes from the website. ChatGPT search will also include a link to the source to be able to check the contents of the content again.

“This combines the benefits of a natural language interface with the latest sports scores, news, stock prices and more,” said OpenAI.

Google is increasingly being left behind

The presence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and new era social media such as TikTok has become an alternative for netizens to find recommendations, tutorials, and in-depth information related to a topic.

In addition, the repeated pressure from the European Union and the US regarding Google’s monopoly also adds to the challenges for the Mountain View giant.

The Verge report in collaboration with the Research and Insights team from Vox Media and Two Cents Insights which was released some time ago, revealed a change in trends in the way netizens search for information amidst the rapid development of technology, including AI.

The report concluded that power is now starting to shift back into the hands of users. People increasingly prioritize communities that have high values and credibility in absorbing reliable information.

“Legacy technologies such as Google and other social platforms are starting to lose public trust. Many people are turning to AI chatbots and small communities, as well as platforms like TikTok,” said The Verge report.

The conclusion obtained by The Verge and its partners was the result of a survey of 2,000 internet users in the United States. In terms of numbers, 42% said search engines like Google are increasingly useless.

As many as 66% said the quality of information on the internet is getting worse and it is difficult to find reliable sources of information. As many as 55% choose to rely on their community to find the latest information, more than search platforms like Google.

Meanwhile, 52% have turned to AI chatbots and alternative platforms like TikTok to find information, rather than relying on Google.

The decline in internet users’ trust in Google does not come from a vacuum. As many as 76% of respondents said more than a quarter of their search results on Google when they want to shop online show sponsored content or are intentionally promoted for a fee.

Only 14% of this sponsored content is considered to really help the user’s search experience.

As many as 61% of Gen Z and 53% of millennials said they use AI tools to replace Google in searching for information on specific topics.

Currently, there are many AI tools on the market that can be used as alternatives to the Google search engine. Apart from the popular Perplexity and OpenAI, there are also AI search engines that are relatively unheard of. For example, iAsk.Ai, Komo AI, Brave Search, Andi Search, and You.com.
