Government Urged to Immediately Form Data Referee, Leaks Getting Worse
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, emphasized that a personal data protection (PDP) supervisory agency must be formed immediately.
“Last I heard, the law is still being harmonized at the Ministry of Law. Later, when it is complete, we hope it will be formed immediately, because there must be a supervisory commission for personal data protection,” said Dave when met at the Telecommunications Device Testing Center (BBPPT), Depok, West Java, Tuesday (16/4/2025).
He emphasized the importance of the existence of this supervisory agency to ensure that data security standards are running well, and to prevent potential data leaks that could harm the wider community.
“Every day, data centers are mushrooming and this supervisory agency is needed to ensure that the standards are appropriate, the security is appropriate, so that it does not become a leak that is detrimental to the public in general,” he said.
The PDP agency itself should have been ratified on October 17, 2024. However, the formation of the supervisory agency mandated in the law has not yet been realized.
The function and authority of the PDP Institution are in Article 59 and Article 60 of the PDP Law. Its task is to supervise the implementation and enforcement of administrative law violations contained in the PDP Law regulations.
