15 Applications, the
Gateway for Mobile Banking Thieves
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Around 15 applications are indicated as dangerous and can steal data and drain victims’ accounts. Of that number, three applications were found to be available in Indonesia.
McAfee reported that all dangerous applications have been installed as many as 8 million times. One of the most comes from a fake online loan application (pinjol) called Spu Loan.
All dangerous applications also use names, logos and designs like official financial applications. Not only that, fake advertisements are also spread through social media.
The application mode will offer low interest and easy conditions so that potential victims are interested. After the application is installed, they will be asked to fill in personal and financial data.
Next, personal data will be used as a tool to terrorize victims. The perpetrators of the crime will ask for the loan money back with super high interest, in the end this makes the victims unable to pay.
It was reported that three regions were targeted by the dangerous application fraud, starting from South America, South Asia to Africa.
