Jeff Bezos’ Company and OnlyFans Founder Compete to Buy TikTok
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –The deadline for the TikTok application to find a buyer in the United States is approaching. Now there are various parties who are submitting bids for the application.
As is known, TikTok has until April 5, 2025 to find a buyer from outside China. Otherwise, the application will be banned from the US.
Reporting from Reuters, Amazon and Tim Stokely, one of the founders of OnlyFans, are the two latest parties interested in buying the TikTok application.
Previously, US officials were concerned that TikTok could endanger national security because it is owned by a Chinese company, ByteDance.
Through a startup called Zoop, Tim Stokely has collaborated with the company to submit a bid to buy TikTok.
Meanwhile, Amazon has sent an official letter to the US government regarding its interest in buying TikTok. Amazon has also long wanted to have its own social media platform to attract young users and increase sales of its products.
For information, Amazon bought the Twitch streaming application in 2014 and the Goodreads book review site in 2013.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump previously revealed that there were four parties who were negotiating to buy TikTok. However, he did not explain further who they were.
Previously reported, a White House official said that his party would hold a meeting to discuss issues related to TikTok.
Reporting from Reuters on Wednesday (2/4/2025), United States (US) President Donald Trump will consider the final proposal regarding TikTok on Wednesday ahead of the April 5 deadline for the application to find a non-Chinese buyer or face a ban.
The official, confirming the CBS News report, said there would be a meeting in the Oval Office involving Vice President JD Vance, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, national security adviser Mike Waltz, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
