Meta Launches New AI Llama
4, Here’s Its Sophistication
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –The technology company that owns the social media platform Facebook, Meta Platforms, officially introduced the first model of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) software, Llama 4, on Saturday (5/4/2025) local time.
The first Llama 4 model can strengthen the Meta AI assistant on its platforms, namely Whatsapp, Messenger, and Instagram. This model is called Llama 4 Behemoth.
However, Meta said that they have not released the largest and most powerful Llama 4 model, which outperforms other AI models in its class and functions as a “teacher for our new models”. Llama 4 Behemoth is currently still in the training stage.
Llama 4 will help strengthen AI agents that will be able to perform new levels of reasoning and action. These agents will be able to explore the web and handle many tasks that can be useful for consumers and businesses.
“Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI, open source it, and make it universally accessible so that everyone in the world can benefit from it,” Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, said in a video on his Instagram, as quoted by CNBC International.
“And I’ve said for a long time that I think open source AI is going to be the leading model, and with Llama 4 that’s starting to happen. Meta AI is getting a big upgrade today,” Mark added.
Meta will host its first LlamaCon AI conference on April 29. The company is also expected to announce a standalone app for its Meta AI chatbot in Q2-2025.
Previously, the Meta AI chatbot officially launched in September 2023. Meta claims it is a generative AI-powered digital assistant that can respond and create images based on user requests in existing apps.
The company brought Meta AI to the forefront of its apps in April 2025, when it replaced the search feature for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger with a chatbot.
Meta also plans to test a paid subscription service for Meta AI chatbots, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot. These services charge users a monthly fee for access to more advanced versions of their ChatGPT and Copilot chatbots.
