Reach IDR5.7 T
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Eradicating online gambling activities in Indonesia continues to be a government priority. Most recently, the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi strongly reprimanded 5 companies providing digital wallets or e-wallets that were detected still facilitating online gamblers.
“There are five companies that facilitate online gambling. We will take firm action if they are stubborn,” said Menkominfo Budi Arie in his official statement, Friday (11/10/2024).
According to data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) received by the Ministry of Communication and Information, the transaction value in the 5 digital wallets reached trillions of rupiah.
The 5 e-wallet companies are PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe (DANA), PT Visionet Internasional (OVO), PT Dompet Anak Bangsa (GoPay), PT Fintek Karya Nusantara (LinkAja), and PT Airpay International Indonesia.
“The Espay e-wallet has the highest transaction value, around IDR 5.4 trillion with 5.7 million transactions related to online gambling,” said Budi Arie Setiadi.
Here is a list of e-wallets that still facilitate online gambling transactions:
- PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe (DANA application) with a transaction value of IDR 5,371,936,767,944 and a transaction amount of 5,724,337
- PT Visionet Internasional (OVO) with a transaction value of IDR 216,620,290,539 with a transaction amount of 836,095
- PT Dompet Anak Bangsa (Go Pay) with a transaction value of IDR 89,240,919,624 with a transaction amount of 577,316
- PT Fintek Karya Nusantara (LinkAja) with a transaction value of IDR 65,450,310,125 with a transaction amount of 80,171
- Airpay International Indonesia with a transaction value of IDR 6,114,203,815 with a transaction amount of 33,069.
The Minister of Communication and Information explained that eradicating online gambling is a government program that will continue in the next government.
“There is no doubt that online gambling is a fraud that causes misery to the people, especially the lower classes. The national economy is also threatened with severe erosion if online gambling is allowed to continue,” explained the Minister of Communication and Information.
During his approximately 1.5 years in office, the Minister of Communication and Information has reduced online gambling activities. As of October 8, 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information has blocked 3.7 million online gambling sites. In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Information moved quickly to follow up on the issue of online gambling website promotion carried out by an influencer on social media.
“Cyber patrols of online gambling activities and online gambling promotional content continue to be carried out,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.
Minister Budi Arie explained that suspicions of the use of digital wallets in online gambling transactions began with the sudden increase in top-up transactions. Moreover, transactions in the digital wallet were only one way, namely incoming transactions, without any outgoing transactions.
“The main target for blocking e-wallet accounts is online gambling bookies. In addition, the flow of money to online gambling players will be the next target,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.
Therefore, the Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that E-Wallet provider companies must clearly record user accounts or electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC), in line with the provisions of personal data protection (PDP).
“E-wallet users must be verified when opening an e-wallet account so that it is not used by criminals,” said Minister Budi Arie.
