Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –The United States Space Agency or NASA is reportedly in a crisis. The institution is experiencing many problems while carrying out many space missions.

This comes from a report entitled NASA at a Crossroads quoted by the Washington Post. The 200-page report was published on the orders of the Congress of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.

According to the report, NASA has lost many of its best talents. The reason is from retirement or moving to private companies because of higher salaries.

In addition, NASA also had to experience many funding cuts. However, they still have to carry out complex and attention-grabbing missions.

The report also stated the conclusion of why this crisis occurred. According to the committee, NASA is too focused on the short term for future strategic plans.

“People tend to ignore the less interesting things that will determine future success,” wrote the report’s lead author, Norman Augustine.

The report also highlights NASA’s reliance on the private sector to fill talent gaps and budget woes. NASA is known to be working with Boeing and SpaceX to carry out some missions.

But this also creates a new problem. Because NASA is said to have difficulty recruiting innovative and creative engineers.

“Innovative and creative engineers do not want to have a job that requires them to supervise the work of others,” Augustin explained.
