Heavy Attack, Perpetrator Arrested
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Dozens of hacks have been uncovered by the Spanish police. Some of the victims include NATO and the United States (US) military.
There were at least 40 cyber attacks targeting private and public organizations in this incident.
The perpetrator has been caught and brought to justice. However, it was later reported that he was released with his passport confiscated and he was prevented from traveling outside Spain.
The police have been investigating since 2024. At that time there was a report of a data leak from a Madrid business association.
The suspect reportedly used three disguises and managed to access important data. Starting from personal information of employees and customers as well as internet documents.
The Spanish police announcement added that the data obtained by the perpetrator was sold or published freely on a number of dark forums, including Breach Forums.
The police raided the suspect’s residence. They confiscated a number of computers, electronic devices, and 50 cryptocurrency accounts with various digital assets.
The suspect faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, for various charges such as illegal access to IT systems, computer damage and money laundering.
