Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –X has just announced a new feature related to blocking. The new capability gives freedom to users who are blocked on the platform.

Previously when blocked, someone could not do or see anything on the account they blocked. Now users can see posts from people who have blocked them.

The company owned by Elon Musk has also updated its social media Support page. Now people who are blocked can see the list of following and followers of those who blocked them, quoted from Tech Crunch, Tuesday (11/5/2024).

This is different from the previous capability. When blocked, the user could not find out anything about the account that blocked them, including seeing the list of their followers and following.

X only maintains that people who are blocked still cannot follow the blocked account. In addition, they also do not have the ability to interact with posts or send direct messages to them.

According to the company, the change allows transparency on its platform. Unlike before, which could hide dangerous and personal information about someone.

This update is quite controversial. In fact, many people think that the change will encourage criminal activities such as stalking or harassing other users.

Tracy Chou, a software engineer and tech diversity advocate, said the problem could be solved by creating another account. But she also warned that friction could arise. “Making it easier for stalkers to stalk is not a good thing,” she said.
