New Online Taxi Tariffs Stir, Android

and iPhone Phones Differentiated

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The difference in online taxi fares is generally determined by several factors. For example, distance traveled, traffic congestion conditions, and peak hours.

However, ride-hailing companies Uber and OLA reportedly differentiate their service rates based on the type of user’s cellphone. This was detected in India.

A number of reports, both from local media and complaints on social media, iPhone users are charged more than Android phones for the same trip.

The local government also said the same thing. They accused Uber and OLA, ride hailing players from India, of using different prices for iPhone and Android, quoted from Reuters, Wednesday (12/2/2025).

India’s consumer affairs minister, Pralhadi Joshi, said that the Central Consumer Protection Agency (CCPA) had also sent a warning about the alleged price difference.

Last month, he called the price difference an unfair trade practice. The companies have also ignored consumer rights.

Joshi also added that he would ask the CCPA to investigate whether similar strategies were used in the sector. For example, in food delivery services and online ticket portals.

However, an Uber spokesperson denied the allegations. The ride-hailing giant assured that it would work with local authorities to resolve the issue.

“We do not set prices based on phone manufacturers. We look forward to working with the Central Consumer Protection Authority to clear up any misunderstandings,” the company spokesperson explained.
