Not Just Indonesia, Country of Origin Also Asks Apple to Build iPhone Factory
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Before being inaugurated as president, Donald Trump had met with Apple CEO Tim Cook. At that time he said that Apple had committed to increasing investment in the United States (US).
Donald Trump’s statement came out during a victory rally, where he talked about the bosses of technology giants who promised to invest in the US.
According to Fox Business, he mentioned the names SoftBank, DAMAC, and Apple. “I spoke with Tim Cook from Apple,” Trump said, quoted from Apple Insider, Thursday (1/23/2025).
“He said that they are going to make a massive investment in the United States because of our big win in the presidential election,” he added.
However, more detailed information about this investment is not yet known.
Apple has consistently invested in US manufacturing and created jobs in the country where they come from.
“We know that Apple can only be created in the United States,” Cook said previously.
“We love this country. We are patriots. This is our country. We want to create as many jobs as possible in the US,” Cook continued.
The majority of iPhones, Macs and other devices are manufactured overseas, primarily in China. But under the Biden administration, the Chips Act has given Apple’s processor supplier TSMC subsidies to build factories in the U.S. The investment news comes after Cook personally committed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration as U.S. president.
