
RI Emergency Online Gambling, TikTok-Google-Facebook Threatened with Fines
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said he would reprimand digital platforms such as Google, TikTok and Meta which still display content related to online gambling. He even said that there were suggestions that fines or penalties would be given.
“The digital platform is our business. There is even a suggestion that we fine or prosecute. We will continue to write to the platform,” said Budi Arie after a Limited Meeting at the Presidential Palace, regarding the Online Gambling Task Force, Wednesday (22/5/2024).
He emphasized that currently he has also communicated and reprimanded digital platforms that are still displaying online gambling content.
“If there is anything, we will give a warning, both verbally and in writing, there are several platforms that no longer want to advertise online gambling, TikTok for example no longer exists, others are still compromised, we have warned all platforms that they are not allowed to broadcast online gambling,” he continued.
Budi further explained that his party has now taken various precautions and blocked online gambling content. There is at least 1,904,246 online gambling content.
Including monitoring from digital platforms, we saw that 20,241 gambling keywords changed on Google and 2,637 on the Meta digital platform.
Meanwhile, from the Financial Services Authority, Budi explained that he had also blocked 5,364 accounts affiliated with online gambling, and 555 e-wallets that had been submitted to Bank Indonesia for closure.
