Smartphones Predicted to Become Extinct, Signs Already Appear
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Nokia CEO, Pekka Lundmark predicts that smartphones will be replaced by new technology in 2030. This is even though currently, smartphones have become part of the needs of people’s lives around the world.
Lundmark considers signs of smartphones being replaced to begin to emerge, including the presence of chip technology embedded in the human body. In addition, devices such as AR/VR in the future will also be more significant.
He also predicts that smartphone replacement devices will be supported by super-fast 5G to 6G connectivity. Although the 5G network has only been released in several countries, 6G has the potential to be present in 2030.
There are also a number of other signs that indicate the extinction of smartphones, here are the details:
1. Electronic Tattoos
This technology was designed by a biotechnology company called Chaotic Moon. According to Marca, Electronic Tattoos will analyze and collect information from the human body. The goal is to process and display media and sports information.
In addition, the data will be useful for preventing and controlling diseases in the body. Electronic Tattoos are also expected to improve physical and sports performance through early signs.
Tattoos are placed on the skin and have small sensors and trackers. Information will be sent and received through special ink that can conduct electricity.
2. Augmented Reality (AR)
AR is known to have been available in several smartphone products to support device performance. However, finally the technology has its own device by creating a trusted and efficient experience.
A number of technology giants such as Samsung, Facebook, and Amazon are investing in this technology further. It is predicted that there will be 50% of displays mounted on the head by 2024.
No longer via cellphones, but AR will penetrate other devices such as googles, glasses, and maybe through implants.
3. Virtual Reality (VR)
VR is also supported on a number of smartphones by connecting to a headset and downloading an application. A number of companies including Samsung, Microsoft, Nokia, and Intel are also interested in this technology and are making major investments.
In the future, smartphones will no longer be needed to enter the world of VR. There are already devices such as the HTC Vive Pre and Playstation VR that are the gateway there.
4. Artificial Intelligence Voice Assistants
Voice Assistants can already be used with separate devices from smartphones. Alexa, Siri, and Cortana can already help with daily life from ordering food, providing weather information, and helping with navigation.
In the future, AI voice control is estimated to be a way to answer questions on Google. A 2019 study, Gartner stated that 20% of all interactions with smartphones are through virtual assistants, and that number will continue to grow as it advances in the future.
5. Pin AI
Recently, The Verge revealed a device called the AI Pin Wearable. This device has just been released by a startup called Humane. Its size is much smaller than a cellphone and must be attached to the user’s clothes.
After that, the information in the device can be accessed directly on the palm of the hand. The hand or other body parts will become a kind of projector screen.
In addition, the way to use it is the same as a smartphone. AI Pin control can be accessed through a combination of gestures and user voice, as quoted by The Verge
This device is indeed much smaller than today’s cellphones. The shape is a small rectangle similar to the weight of the AI Pin, only 34 grams and the total with the battery is 54 grams. According to The Verge, Humane equips its device with a 13 MP camera. This lens is used to take pictures and record videos.
To record a video, users only need to tap or ‘tap’ on the device’s touchpad. Next, the device will emit a small light which indicates that recording mode has been activated.
Furthermore, the performance of this sophisticated device is supported by the Snapdragon chip, although the type was not disclosed. Meanwhile, its AI technology uses GPT-4 developed by the company that makes ChatGPT, OpenAI.
