Starlink Sold Freely in Indonesia, Operator Reminds Government about Justice

The government is asked to act fairly with the presence of Starlink from SpaceX in Indonesia. SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, was present at the inauguration of Starlink in Indonesia.

Starlink comes with the cheapest subscription fee of IDR 750 thousand per month. In addition to the subscription fee, customers are charged a device fee of IDR 7.8 million.

Regarding Starlink’s presence in Indonesia, Telkomsel’s VP Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility, Saki H Bramono, said that in the telecommunications industry, competition cannot be separated. However, they expect

justice from the government.

“Telkomsel hopes that the government can create an equal playing field with justice in enforcing the fulfillment of telecommunications operations obligations in Indonesia to Starlink,” he said in his statement to Okezone, Thursday (23/5/2024).

This, Saki explained, starts from the obligation to establish a business entity domiciled in Indonesia, implementation of tax policies, obligation to pay PNBP, obligation to fulfill QoS, TKDN, to aspects of potential interference, aspects of data protection and security, as well as aspects of national sovereignty.

“Telkomsel hopes that healthy and fair competition, including the presence of Starlink in Indonesia, can encourage innovation and development of better telecommunications infrastructure,” he said.
