Technology Bosses Claim Cellphones Will Soon Be Extinct, Here’s The Replacement
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Two giant technology company bosses, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, unanimously said that smartphones will soon be extinct. What will replace them?
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, talked about smart glasses that will replace cellphones in the near future. At the Meta Connect event, Zuckerberg predicted that billions of people who currently wear regular glasses will switch to smart glasses.
“Just like everyone is switching to smartphones, I think everyone who wears glasses will switch to smart glasses in the next decade,” said Zuckerberg, citing Forbes, Wednesday (10/16).
“And then I think it will become very valuable, and many other people who don’t wear glasses will start wearing them too,” he added.
These glasses are equipped with augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, projected to become the main gateway to the digital world and replace our dependence on cellphone screens.
Zuckerberg showed that Meta has invested heavily in the development of connected hardware, including Ray-Ban smart glasses powered by AI. This technology allows users to stay connected to the digital world without having to look at the phone or smartwatch screen.
According to Zuckerberg, these smart glasses will provide an always-on computing experience that allows for more natural interaction with the digital world.
Meanwhile, Musk projects a future where phones may become obsolete. They predict that new technologies such as Neuralink-style brain chips will replace the function of phones that have dominated human digital life. Neuralink is Musk’s brain implant company.
According to him, humans will use Neuralink, a brain chip that allows people to control devices with their minds.
In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) Musk responded to an AI-generated image of himself holding a phone with a neural network design on his forehead. Musk said that technology like Neuralink would completely replace our need for phones.
“In the future, there will be no phones, only Neuralinks,” Musk wrote on X, some time ago.
Neuralink, a neurotechnology company founded by Musk, has just achieved an important achievement. They have succeeded in implanting a brain chip into a human for the first time.
The first patient, Noland Arbaugh, who is paralyzed from the shoulders down, has shown positive developments since undergoing surgery.
With the chip, he can control computers and phones with just his mind.
“This is crazy, so cool. I’m lucky to be a part of this. It feels like every day I learn something new. I can’t describe how cool it is to be able to do this,” Arbaugh said in a video uploaded by Neuralink last March.
Musk revealed that Neuralink is currently looking for a second participant for their clinical trial. This aims to prove the potential of their cybernetic telepathy technology.
“Neuralink is accepting applications for a second participant. This is the Telepathy cybernetic brain implant that allows you to control your phone and computer just by thinking,” Musk wrote.
