This Application is the Entry Point for

M-Banking Thieves, Millions

of Indonesian Citizens Have It

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia As many as 15 applications available on the Google Play Store application store are apparently dangerous and can drain your account until it is empty. Based on the latest report from cybersecurity firm McAfee, many fake online loan applications (pinjol) are circulating and are in demand by Android phone users, quoted Sunday (3/16/2025).

In total, the 15 dangerous applications have been installed 8 million times. McAfee said the applications steal personal and financial data from victims.

Cybercriminals will easily access the victim’s financial application and drain the account balance in it.

Most of the dangerous applications target victims in South America, South Asia, and Africa. Of the 15 dangerous applications listed, 3 of them are available in Indonesia and have been installed by 2 million users.

McAfee said these dangerous applications use names, logos, and designs that are similar to official financial applications. They also promote fake advertisements on social media.

The fake loan application is called ‘SpyLoan’. If you have already installed these applications, delete them immediately before your account is drained and your identity is stolen.

This adds to the length of online fraud. The reason is that there are more and more fraud modes via cellphones. This mode occurs after the user installs Android or the Android Package Kit (APK) file.

There are many types of APKs that are often sent by irresponsible individuals to trick victims or are known as phishing, such as package receipts and wedding invitations.

Here is a list of applications, quoted from TomsGuide:

  • Préstamo Seguro-Rápido, Seguro (1 million downloads)
  • Préstamo Rapid-Credit Easy (1 million downloads)
  • Get Baht Easily – Quick Loan (1 million downloads)
  • RupiahKilat-Dana cair (1 million downloads)
  • Borrow Happil – Loan (1 million downloads)
  • Happy Money (1 million downloads)
  • KreditKu – Uang Online (500,000 downloads)
  • Dana Kilat – Pinjaman Kecil (500,000 downloads)
  • Cash Loan-Vay tiền (500,000 downloads)
  • RapidFinance (100,000 downloads)
  • PrêtPourVous (100,000 downloads)
  • Huayna Money – Préstamo Rapid (100,000 downloads)
  • IPréstamos: Rapid Credit (100,000 downloads)
  • Get Fast Money (100,000 downloads)
  • Get Paid Online (100,000 downloads)

In general, fake online loan applications promise fast and flexible loans. The method of ensnaring victims is carried out by promoting low interest rates and easy terms.

That way, potential victims will be encouraged to download the fake online loan application, then fill in their personal and financial data.

After the sensitive data is obtained, cybercriminals behind the malicious application will terrorize victims and ask them to pay the loan money with super high interest, so that victims are entangled in debt that they cannot afford to pay.

The modes of online fraud circulating on the internet are increasingly diverse. For this reason, this finding reminds once again that the public must be critical and not easily fooled by the lure of promotions that appear on the internet.
