TikTok Replacement Apps Are Getting More Popular, Elon Musk Joins In
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –The drama of TikTok’s blocking in the United States (US) has become the world’s spotlight. Currently, TikTok has recovered thanks to an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump to delay the closure of the service.
The Trump administration gave TikTok 75 days to comply with US law requiring the platform to separate from its Chinese parent ByteDance. Otherwise, TikTok will be forced to be permanently blocked.
Initially, TikTok was only given until January 19. Therefore, TikTok immediately acted to close the service for 170 million US users, not just blocking access for new people who wanted to join.
In the next 75 days, the Trump administration will negotiate with ByteDance and TikTok to agree on a mutually acceptable solution.
Although TikTok’s service has been restored for 170 million users, the application is not yet available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for new users to access.
Previous reports said Trump wanted TikTok’s ownership in the US to be divided 50% for US investors. However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the decision on TikTok US must be made independently by the company.
Everyone Prepares TikTok’s Replacement
TikTok’s fate, which is still not entirely clear in the US, has made other platforms react. One of them is X, which has changed its service by adding a video tab at the bottom of the application.
This allows users in the US to access video-formatted content on the X application, similar to the TikTok experience.
“A new immersive place for video is launching to users in the US today,” the company said in a post on Sunday (19/1) local time, quoted from TechCrunch, Tuesday (21/1/2025).
X users can now scroll through videos on the platform. When selecting a particular video, just scroll down to see other videos.
Not only X, Bluesky, which is actually a competitor application to X, is now also changing its service to be similar to TikTok. Bluesky said on Sunday (19/1) that there is a new feature on the application that contains vertical videos like TikTok.
The Bluesky application now has a popular video feature in the ‘Explore’ tab. When users click on a video in it, they can swipe to see other videos.
“We also had to get involved in adding videos. Bluesky now has a dedicated feed for videos! Like other feeds, you can choose to pin this feed or not. Bluesky is customizable,” the platform said.
