TikTok Wants to be Sold, China Immediately Prepares New Application

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia TikTok’s fate in the United States (US) is still shrouded in uncertainty. In the rules signed during the Joe Biden administration, TikTok’s operations in the US must be separated from its parent company, ByteDance, from China.

Otherwise, TikTok will be permanently blocked. The enforcement of the rules has been postponed 3 times by US President Donald Trump. Most recently, TikTok’s fate was said to be determined on September 19, 2025.

Last week, Trump said he would speak with US President Xi Jinping or his representative regarding TikTok’s continuity in the US this week, possibly Monday (7/7) or Tuesday (8/7).

Previously, an agreement had been drawn up so that TikTok’s operations in the US would be handed over to investors in the US as a new entity. However, this was opposed by the Chinese government, following the trade war initiated by Trump through high tariffs on imported goods from China.
