Trump Delays TikTok Block Again

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia United States (US) President Donald Trump has again postponed the blocking of TikTok. The delay was carried out for 75 days from the deadline of April 5, 2025 yesterday.

The previous US government required Bytedance to sell TikTok to a company in the country. If not done, the application would be blocked.

Initially, the sales deadline was last January. However, Trump, who had just been inaugurated at that time, postponed it until early April 2025.

For the second delay, Trump said his administration had made tremendous progress regarding TikTok. It takes time for the deal to work.

“My administration is working very hard on the deal to save TikTok, and we are making tremendous progress. The deal needs more work, to make sure all the necessary approvals are signed,” Trump said, quoted from CNN International, Sunday (6/4/2025).

Previously, Trump and Vice President JD Vance hoped for an agreement before April 5, 2025. Hopefully, it can be completed and signed in Trump’s executive order this week.

Tiktok did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Meanwhile, a Bytedance spokesperson said the company has been in discussions with the US government regarding Tiktok.

For information, Bytedance can still own shares of Tiktok operating in the US. However, the company can only pocket 20% of the application’s shares.

In addition, Tiktok US is no longer coordinating with Bytendance. Starting from the algorithm, as well as data sharing practices.

“Have been in discussions with the US Government regarding potential solutions for Tiktok,” said a Bytendance spokesperson.

He said no agreement had been made. There are still some things that need to be resolved.

“Any agreement will be approved by Chinese law,” he explained.
