Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Elon Musk’s Platform X has agreed to pay US$10 million (IDR163.5 billion) to settle the lawsuit filed by Donald Trump.

The US President, who is now close to the bosses of the technology giants, had criticized the blocking of him on various social media and internet platforms. This is what made Trump finally establish his own social media called Truth Social.

Trump filed a lawsuit against Twitter, which is now X, Facebook, and Alphabet, as well as executives at those companies in July 2021. He accused the platforms of illegally silencing conservative perspectives on the internet.

Last month, Meta Platforms said it was willing to pay a settlement fee for Trump’s lawsuit of US$25 million (IDR408.8 billion).

X is the second social media company to pay a settlement for Trump’s lawsuit, quoted from Reuters, Thursday (2/13/2025).

According to inside sources reported by the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s team had previously considered not pursuing the lawsuit against X. Because Musk had donated US$250 million (Rp4 trillion) to Trump’s campaign.

However, in the end, Trump’s team continued the process of resolving the lawsuit.

Musk himself has received many ‘luxuries’ from Trump’s election as US President. He now holds a strategic position as the leader of the Government Efficiency Agency (DOGE).

He immediately took drastic steps for budget efficiency by firing millions of US civil servants. Musk also hired many young people with little experience at DOGE, and requested access to the personal data of civil servants and millions of US citizens.

Trump’s lawyers are still hoping to pursue a settlement with Google, which blocked Trump from YouTube after the riots at the Capitol in 2021, according to the WSJ report.

X and Twitter CEO at the time, Jack Dorsey, as well as Alphabet and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
