YouTube and Instagram Break the Law, Google and Meta Under Daily Inspection
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is investigating Google and Meta. This investigation concerns the two companies’ failure to comply with age-based social media restrictions stipulated in the Tunas Government Regulation.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, was investigated on Monday (April 6, 2026). Today, it’s Google, the owner of YouTube, to be investigated.
“Meta arrived yesterday and we have already conducted an investigation, and today Google also complied with our second summons,” said the Director General of Digital Supervision, Alexander Sabar, in a press conference at the Komdigi office on Tuesday (April 7, 2026).
“Currently, Google is conducting its investigation, and it’s still ongoing from 10 a.m. this morning until now. So, the picture is more or less the same as Meta yesterday,” he added.
The two tech giants were asked 29 questions to investigate alleged violations of the Tunas PP regulations. Regarding the results, Alex asked for patience as further investigation would be carried out.
Meta itself also promised to provide additional documents to complement the investigation process.
Alex explained that the platform carries out a verification process. Only after a discovery is made will follow-up action be taken, including account deletion.
“So, the verification process is their own, and after they find it, they will take follow-up action, whether it’s deactivation or something else. That’s what we’re waiting for. So, we don’t have the numbers yet,” Alex concluded.
