Account Blocked Due to Elon Musk, Starlink Boss Begs for Forgiveness
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – SpaceX President even begged a judge in Brazil because Starlink continues to receive legal pressure in the country.
TechCrunch reported that SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell publicly pleaded for her request to a judge in Brazil. Starlink is a satellite internet service owned by SpaceX, a space company owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
“This was one of my best days, bringing Starlink’s high-speed internet to schools in the Amazon and meeting [and being hugged] by these amazing students. This photo shows just a fraction of the hundreds of thousands of Brazilians we are fighting to keep connected to [the internet]. Please, stop disrupting Starlink and let us continue serving Brazilians,” Shotwell said via the X social media account.
The problems experienced by Starlink in Brazil began with a conflict between its social media, X, formerly known as Twitter, and a judge in Brazil. The Brazilian court accused X of being a place to spread fake news and extremism.
After X’s social media refused to comply with a court order to delete the account, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered X to be blocked in Brazil.
However, the problem has spread to other Musk companies. The account of Starlink, which reportedly has 250,000 users in Brazil and has been operating since 2022, was frozen by the court. The reason the court blocked X’s account was to ensure that X’s social media paid a fine of US$ 3 million.
Initially, Starlink also refused the court’s order to block internet access to X’s social media. However, Starlink finally
gave in and blocked X.
SpaceX has also sent an email to all its employees not to travel to Brazil, even for personal matters. SpaceX employees who are domiciled in Brazil will also be relocated.
