Apple’s Letter To Minister Agus Prohibiting The Sale Of iPhone 16 In Indonesia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Apple has recently written to the Indonesian government. According to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Eko SA Cahyanto, the letter contains the technology giant’s desire to meet with the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang.
“We have received [the letter]. They want to meet, explain to the minister,” he told the media crew.
This letter came after news that the iPhone 16 could not be released in Indonesia. This is because Apple’s Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification has expired.
The government is still waiting for additional investment realization from Apple. The company from Cupertino, United States (US), promised an investment of IDR 1.71 trillion, but until now not all of it has been realized, amounting to IDR 240 billion.
Eko explained that the government wants Apple to be able to accelerate the realization of its needs. Including the investment shortfall promised by Apple.
“But in principle, we encourage them to accelerate the realization of their needs. We are still waiting for their decision [regarding the investment shortfall of IDR 240 billion],” explained Eko.
Eko added that the government is very open to any party related to TKDN. The government also encourages companies to have a higher TKDN.
“In principle, for HKT, products that are already required to have TKDN, we also encourage them to have a higher TKDN. In principle, investment is directly proportional to the TKDN value,” said Eko.
For information, Indonesia has three TKDN calculation schemes. This is stated in Permenperin No. 29 of 2017 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Calculating the Value of Domestic Components of Cellular Phones, Handheld Computers and Tablet Computers.
The three schemes are manufacturing products domestically, applications, and developing innovation. Apple fulfills TKDN through the last scheme, namely developing innovation through investment.
