Google sends a danger signal, be careful, pick up the phone, your account has

been sold out

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Cases of online fraud that have resulted in financial losses have been increasing recently. The modes are varied, utilizing advanced technology.

One of the entry points for fraud is via telephone. Google finally stepped in to solve this.

Google said it was testing a new feature to monitor and warn users when calls are suspected to come from fraudsters, aka ‘scam calling’.

This feature uses a tool called ‘Gemini Nano’ which is a derivative of the artificial intelligence-based large language modeling ‘Gemini AI’.

Gemini Nano can run on the internet or offline. This tool will identify if there are interaction patterns that are often used to deceive victims.

Users will receive real-time alerts when on a call. Google will place a red flag on the cellphone screen.

One thing that will trigger red flags is a call that claims to come from a bank representative and asks for things that are not normally requested by a real bank. m

For example, user personal information such as passwords or PINs, requests for payment via gift cards, or asking the victim to transfer a certain amount of money.

This new protection is stored entirely within the device. So, chats monitored by Gemini Nano will be completely private.

Google did not reveal when this fraud detection feature would be available. “Later this year,” was all the Mountain View giant said.

This feature could be said to be crucial in the era of rampant online fraudsters. The Global Anti-Scam Alliance report in October 2023 said 1 in 4 people worldwide have lost money thanks to online fraud and identity theft.
