Indosat-Mastercard Develops No-Get-Out-Of-Car Payment System
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia –Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) and Mastercard are working together to develop an integrated transportation and payment system technology called NEXTFleet.
The system, which is still in prototype form, will be brought to market in 2025.
“This solution will be available soon, in the next few quarters in 2025,” said Chirag Shukadia, Chief Enterprise Data Analytics Officer Indosat at the Indosat Office, Tuesday (10/21).
“We are also working together to bring this product to market to see how we can increase production not only in metropolitan areas, but also in rural areas throughout Indonesia,” he added.
This collaboration is presented to improve the driver experience and operational efficiency for fleet operators and public transportation managers, while introducing innovative technology for automotive manufacturers to increase the value of their products for individual consumers.
This system allows drivers to transact for refueling, toll payments, electric vehicle battery charging, or lantatur (drive-through restaurant ordering service) from the vehicle dashboard, without having to leave their vehicles.
Leveraging Mastercard’s tokenization and biometric innovations, drivers can securely store payment credentials in their vehicle’s infotainment system, and authenticate payments using just a fingerprint.
Meanwhile, Indosat’s NEXTFleet complements this by helping companies plan, schedule, and monitor fleets in real-time via mobile apps and IoT devices, significantly reducing operational costs, increasing efficiency, and boosting productivity.
The potential for using AI-based in-vehicle payment and fleet management solutions is considered to have unlimited potential for both personal and public transportation use.
“Mastercard’s efforts in mobility-as-a-service and in-vehicle payment solutions are part of our global effort to explore cutting-edge technologies with industry leaders,” said Aileen Goh, Country Manager and President Director of PT Mastercard Indonesia.
For information, Mastercard has collaborated with Mercedes Benz to introduce in-car payments that allow drivers to make payments at gas stations directly from their vehicles, simply by using their fingerprints.
With this system, the payment system will automatically connect to the gas station when the car has entered the gas station area and turned off the engine.
