Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Telkomsel is constantly innovating to present the latest technological solutions to provide the best service for all customers. In an effort to support government policies and strengthen the security and accuracy of the prepaid SIM card registration process, Telkomsel is one of the pioneers in conducting trials of biometric facial recognition technology. As is known, this technology is applied to facilitate the prepaid card registration process and card replacement through Telkomsel’s self-service machines, MyGraPARI and GraPARI Online, providing safer, faster, and more efficient services for customers. This step is in line with Telkomsel’s commitment to present the latest technological solutions that not only simplify and accelerate the customer validation process, but also strengthen the protection of personal data. Telkomsel itself, since the launch of MyGraPARI in 2015, has gradually implemented eKTP and fingerprint scanning technology to validate customer identities in replacing SIM cards quickly, accurately, and easily.Facial recognition biometric technology is expected to complement existing validation methods, such as the use of Population Identification Number (NIK) and Family Card Number (KK), thus providing a safer, faster, and more convenient registration experience.
Director General of Postal and Informatics Services (PPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of the Republic of Indonesia (Kominfo), Wayan Toni Supriyanto said that his party supports Telkomsel’s initiative and readiness in implementing facial recognition biometric technology for the prepaid card registration process.
“Every telecommunications service provider is required to implement the Know Your Customer (KYC) principle to ensure the protection of customers’ personal data. Through biometric face recognition technology, we hope that the challenges related to identity validation can be overcome effectively. We also really hope that all telecommunications service providers can carry out this obligation as well as possible,” he said in his official statement, written Tuesday (8/10/2024).
As a regulator, Kominfo appreciates Telkomsel’s steps in complying with and implementing this regulation with full commitment and responsibility, in order to create a safer and more trusted telecommunications ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Telkomsel Sales Director, Adiwinahyu Basuki Sigit admitted that he was proud to be one of the pioneers in the trial of Prepaid card registration using biometric facial recognition technology. This innovation is in line with Telkomsel’s vision and mission to continue to present innovative and superior connectivity, services and solutions and prioritize convenience, comfort, and security for all customers.
“This biometric technology not only facilitates the registration process, but also supports the implementation of the Know Your Customer (KYC) standard implemented by telecommunications operators to ensure the validity of customer data and reduce the risk of fraud and misuse of customer identity that often occurs in the current digital era,” he explained.
This technology trial was implemented at GraPARI Online and MyGraPARI, where customers can register prepaid cards and change cards more easily and safely through a process that has been guaranteed to be accurate.
This biometric facial recognition technology works by verifying customer identity through facial scans that are matched with population data at Dukcapil, ensuring that customers who register are legitimate identity owners.
Thus, Telkomsel is committed to maintaining the integrity and security of customers’ personal data as part of the implementation of good corporate governance (GCG) and the implementation of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles which are always the main guidelines in running its business sustainably.

This commitment is realized not only through innovations such as MyGraPARI and GraPARI Online which allow customers to carry out various transactions independently, such as card registration, card replacement, and bill payments, faster and more practically, the presence of the Veronika Virtual Assistant equipped with AI technology also enriches the customer’s digital experience, providing easy access to services anytime and anywhere. Through this technology-based solution, Telkomsel continues to ensure that every customer gets a more personal, responsive, and accurate service.
