Potential AI Disaster Risks Are In Sight, Experts Reveal How To Prevent Them

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been increasingly rapid in recent times. The rapid development of AI has also triggered concerns from a number of experts because of the potential disaster risks that are in sight.

Michael Wade, Director of the Global Center for Digital Business Transformation International Institute for Management Development (IMD), revealed that there are four phases of AI disaster risk, especially from Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), an AI system that is able to operate independently without human assistance and supervision.

The four phases of uncontrolled AGI risk are: low, medium, high, and critical risk. The risks are serious, but it is not too late to act,” Wade explained in his written statement, Wednesday (2/10).

Bengio also warned that this AI technology could be used by dictators to control humans around the world.According to him, with all the risks and potential threats, the authorities should make clear regulations on the use of AI.However, he stated that not a few parties who develop AI reject the planned regulations. They argue that regulations will only slow down innovation in AI technology.

“That doesn’t mean we’re going to stop innovation, you can direct your efforts in a direction that builds tools that will definitely help the economy and the well-being of society. So that’s a flawed argument,” Bengio said.

“We have regulations for almost everything from sandwiches to cars to the planes you fly in. Before we had regulations, we had more accidents. Same thing with medicine. We can have technologies that help and be regulated, that’s what’s worked for us,” he said.
